1. For those who might not know you yet – who are you and what’s your role in The Wahala Tribe?
Hi There! My name is Tyler, I am an artist manager and brand developer under Wahala Tribe! I help artists with there networking, releases, label signings, bookings, artwork, and any side projects they may or may not have.
2. How would you describe your creative style in 3 words?
Aggressive, energetic, and disruptive.
3. What part of the creative process excites you the most?
Getting started on the projects. I love the back and forth with the artist coming up with ideas, putting things on a mood board, showing each other our creative inspirations and goals, and getting to know one another on a creative level.
4. How do you balance staying on-trend while keeping an artist authenic?
Everyone has inspiration, myself included. All throughout the visualization process I’ll work with an artist to take existing influences and mold those ideas to fit their styles and brand. I do my best to stay on top of current affairs in art, especially in EDM. I always have my ear to the ground with what’s working/what isn’t on the visual art side of things.
5. What’s a project with TWT you’re especially proud of and why?
Hysteric has been a day one artist with me, we’ve built the brand from the ground up and are proud to have multiple label releases, bookings, 2 albums, several EP’s, and a full spectrum of artwork to back the brand. Anywhere that project goes it is ready to deploy and that’s something I strive for with anyone I work with.
6. One plugin tool, or app you can’t live without?
Cinema 4D. My day one tool has carried me to a full time job doing client work. Everything I know about 3D, visuals, and animation I’ve learned in this tool. It has put food on my table and paid my rent for almost 6 years, and I wouldn’t be where I am without it.
7. One piece of advice for artists trying to build there brand right now?
LOGO LOGO LOGO. Get a solid logo going, get display banners made, get all your social media set up with your branding face first. You want to look as big and professional as possible even if there’s nothing out yet. Your brand is before your music, it’s the first thing people engage with before they ever hit play. It is your attention grabbing statement, so make it count.
